Adirondack Chair

this adirondack chair is built from canadian larch. as one of the stronger softwoods it is still very light, quite easy to work with, has a very nice natural color - but is quite expensive (bought it at www.jungbluth-holz.de).
i used my new festool CARVEX PS 400 to do the round cuts. as expected it was a lot of fun working with the machine. the only thing i found a bit annoying is the light that turns on when you cut because it actually is a little too bright and slightly glares.
i also had some custom pillows made for the chair. i cut the foam myself and had the pillowslips made at www.schneiderengel.de - definitely one of the best tailors in cologne. see below for more pictures….
loungesofa

this is an outdoor loungesofa. it was a - partly self inflicted - project for my friend matthias and his awesome terrace in amsterdam. it is a modular setup with 3 seats, each of which can be dismantled into further parts for transport or storage. the seating area of each of the 3 seats has a size of 80cm x 80cm - so you can easily lie down on the 240cm total length.
the sofa is built from impregnated spruce which i bought in neuss at www.jungbluth-neuss.de. originally i wanted to use red cedar but the additional costs would have been quite significant.
the couch is painted with 3 layers: first a base coat (holzimprägnierung), then grey country colour (landhausfarbe) and finally some UV protection. all paints were from www.osmo.de which i thought worked quite well. i especially liked the texture of the country color.
it was also my first project to use my new www.feestool.de circular saw - which was a lot of fun. especially the guide rail permits cuts with amazing precision.

siedlerspielbrett

a board for settlers of catan. made from spruce shelves. the boxes for the cards and the playing field are milled with the router. if i would do it again i’d probably use some flakeboard instead of real wood because it warped quite a lot….
shoe cabinet
this shoe cabinet is made from two planks at the side. the sliding doors are made from acrylic glass i got from www.plexiglas-shop.com and run along little slots i made with the router.

Upholstered Headboard
i finally finished the tufted headboard for my bed. it’s not quite finished yet as i still want to install some lamps and sockets. for now read more on how i actually built it….

hifi/projector unit

made from mdf and painted with varnish. contains an ipod dock, a case for the WD TV and a drawer for the projector.
bookcase

this bookcase is inspired by an early version of mdf italia’s random. all shelves are made from mdf. key to the design is that all shelves are plugged into slots i made with the router. therefore almost no screws were necessary.
blog relaunch
new blog on tumblr as my provider where i had my wordpress blog installed had security issues…..
